How To Know If The Journey Is Really The Destination?

Change is easy. Change is hard. Change is just part of life. Is the journey really the destination? How to know when the journey is the destination

How many times have we heard these words about change and either nodded in agreement, or rolled our eyes in disgust?

Turning 50 is a significant milestone for women. (Men too, yes, but we’re talking specifically about the girls here.)  It is a time of constant change – and not just “THE change”.  It often seems as though these years are constantly filled with transition. Kids are in high school or leaving it, our careers may be in a different place whether we are wildly successful and are thinking of retirement,  or have lost a job and are faced with beginning all over again. Our relationship with our spouse may be deeper than ever or we may be alone and lonely.  We may be faced with serious illness or be responsible for taking care of an aging parent.  There is one thing you can be sure of during this time: nothing is constant but change.

“The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.” – Abraham Lincoln

Part of dealing successfully with change is recognizing that the journey IS the destination all of the time. The difference during midlife is that we have a valuable opportunity to either blindly react to those changes with fear, hostility, sadness or resignation, or draw on the unique experiences we have had along our journey that have taught us to to accept what life events occur and help others to do the same.
